Pounded early and generally
Left-hander Manny Banuelos walked 4 Cubs in the initially inning and hit yet another in the next. It was downhill from there.
Banuelos, a former top rated prospect with the Yankees, has no small-league solutions left and would stand a superior opportunity to make the group, although veteran suitable-hander Ervin Santana has the higher hand as the fifth starter.
Banuelos mentioned he didn’t experience in sync warming up, and it carried about to the activity.
Wait, it will get worse
The Cubs pounded relievers Juan Minaya and Aaron Bummer in an eight-run next. Minaya failed to retire any of the 6 hitters he faced (five hits, including a dwelling run to Kris Bryant, and a stroll), and Bummer permitted 4 hits. He did strike out two, even though.
All or absolutely nothing
Jose Abreu homered for the next time in two times, and Adam Engel and small-leaguer Danny Mendick also went deep. The White Sox started off largely regulars from suitable-hander Yu Darvish, but their only other hit was a single by catching prospect Zack Collins.
Eloy vs. the Cubs
Leading prospect Eloy Jimenez went -for-3 from the group that traded him. He is 2-for-14 (.143) with a double this spring.
‘‘It’s just timing,’’ mentioned Jimenez, who hit a pinch homer from the Cubs final spring. ‘‘It’s coming. I know it is likely to get much better.’’
Jimenez exchanged hugs and handshakes with members of the Cubs’ coaching personnel, including supervisor Joe Maddon, right after the activity.
‘‘I know they still adore me,’’ Jimenez mentioned. ‘‘That [mutual] adore is there.’’
