Red Sox among teams showing ‘continued interest’ in Yankees free agent target Adam Ottavino

The Red Sox and White Sox are among the teams showing “continued interest” in Yankees free agent target Adam Ottavino, reports Jon Morosi of, who says the Rockies are open to re-signing Ottavino.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman met with Ottavino’s representatives earlier in December, with Joel Sherman of the New York Post reporting at the time that Ottavino was high on New York’s wish list.

The 33-year-old reliever is coming off the best season of his career. He had a 2.43 ERA (2.74 FIP) and 0.99 WHIP while striking out 112 batters (13.0 per 9) in 77.2 innings for the Rockies.

Ottavino has been one of the better relievers in baseball since 2013, though he suffered a pretty sizable blip in 2017, when he had a 5.06 ERA (5.16 FIP) and 1.63 WHIP while walking a ridiculous 6.6 batters per 9.

Along with their interest in Ottavino, the Yankees are viewed as one of the favorites to sign Zach Britton (who would be re-signing with the Yanks after being acquired from the Orioles during the 2018 season).

Among other things, the Yankees have prioritized bulking up the bullpen this offseason but haven’t made a splash yet. Along with Britton, David Robertson is a free agent of theirs who could depart.

The Yankees had interest in Andrew Miller and requested his medicals, according to SNY’s Andy Martino, but didn’t make him an offer before he signed a two-year, $25 million deal with the Cardinals.
