How Theo Epstein and the Cubs are indirectly impacting the 2020 presidential race

When you’re the central figure of the greatest story in American sports history, people are going to want to apply the lessons learned from your journey.

Count Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren and her camp among those who took notice of Theo Epstein’s work with the Cubs.

Warren is one of the Democratic options to run against Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election and as she’s worked in the early stages of her campaign, she’s apparently tried to model a lot off the way Epstein changed the culture of the Cubs, as a story from The Guardian details:

The Democrat has the luxury of being considered one of the frontrunners for her party’s nomination and she has been able to make a number of marquee hires. But as she has done so, her campaign has emphasized the need to hire the right people, not the best people, all the while mining wisdom from The Cubs Way, a book about how team president Theo Epstein used workplace culture as a tool to end the Chicago Cubs’ 108-year wait for a World Series win.

“The Cubs Way: The Zen of Building the Best Team in Baseball and Breaking the Curse” was written by Sports Illustrated’s Tom Verducci and released in March 2017, just before the start of that year’s MLB season and roughly 5 months after the 2016 Cubs won it all.
