Chicago Cubs rumors are heating up after a season that ended in disappointment, but that doesn’t mean they should overreact.
As Major League Baseball’s Postseason heats up, so are Chicago Cubs rumors. Cubs fans have likely been unable to bring themselves to watch even an inning. That’s because the team with the best record in the National League for much of the regular season is sitting at home after an incredibly disappointing finish to the season.
While the Cubs had a grueling stretch of 30 games in 30 days to finish off the season, it was their offense, more than fatigue, that failed them when it counted. They scored only one run in each of their last two games, and as a result, lost both the NL Central tiebreaker, as well as the NL Wild Card game.
Their inability to scratch out more runs down the stretch is what makes the idea of pursuing Washington Nationals slugger Bryce Harper so appealing. However, the Cubs should resist the temptation to break open the bank to sign the soon to be free agent.
So what’s not to like? The 25-year-old smooth swinging left-hander has been patrolling right field for the Nats since he was 19. He has the cache of a star, but is he the right fit for the Cubs? Well, at least oddsmakers think he could be, as they currently have the Cubs as the even-money favorite to land him.
